In 2010, the U. S. Navy Surface Warfare Research Center and Cottus company signed a contract worth $11 million, for the development of the solid fiber burning laser weapon system. Cottus company put forward the technical route before various studies funded by the U. S. Navy.
The laser can produce beam source, current laser divided into several major categories of solid state laser device, liquid laser, gas laser, free electron laser. Routh uses the simplest and most inexpensive and reliable fiber laser
